Smoothping drops me from ~300 to ~100. To hopefully also give some more credibility, I play a level 80 Priest on the Grizzly Hills server named Rade. The program reports that no gateway was detected. It is not an optimisation tool, in fact it is quite the opposite, with the overhead of compressing and decompressing data likely to cause more delays.
