Mission

  • Promote the adoption of CTM practices through electronic commerce
  • Decrease the cost and effort associated with implementing and onboarding trading partners and service providers
  • One-stop shop for existing standards documentation related to CTM and eCommerce solutions
  • Drive broader participation by the member companies and associated organizations in the work of the committee

The Collaborative Transportation Management Sub-Committee focused their initial scope on North American ground transportation and the movement of goods from the manufacture to the retail distribution channel.  It was determined that in order to be successful, it was critical that the committee ensure that deliverables focused on the follow three components:

  1. Business process definition (what?)
  2. Business value proposition (why?)
  3. Business implementation guide (how?)

 

To that end, the Collaborative Transportation Management Sub-Committee is in the process of updating existing standards documentation, as well as, creating new standards deliverables which help both new and experienced eCommerce organizations implement electronic transportation relationships that are consistent and value-add to all members of the trading relationship.

1.       Submit for Board review and prepare for publication, the following Business Implementation Guidelines and related Process Flows:

a.       FTL Load Tender & Response (204/990)

b.       LTL Bill of Lading (211)

c.       LTL Pick Up Notification (216)

d.       Shipment Status (214/240)

e.       Freight Billing (210)

2.       Finalize the following EDI Implementation Guidelines and prepare for publication:

a.       FTL Load Tender & Response (204/990)

b.       LTL Bill of Lading (211)

c.       LTL Pick Up Notification (216)

d.       Request for Routing & Response (753/754)

3.       For the Advance Ship Notice (856), define and document best practices and EDI requirements for both domestic and international (GLM involvement):

a.       Introduction via webinar with subject matter expert members – March

b.       Working session at physical CNMF meeting - May

c.       Update at U Connect – June

4.       Q&A and Change Request processes

a.       Website capabilities enabled (complete Jan 08)

b.       FAQ and formal Change Request process definition (target Jun 08)

5.       Continue draft reviews (Business Implementation Guideline, Process Flow and EDI Implementation Guideline) and move toward goal of publication for the following documents:

a.       Request for Routing & Response (753/754)

b.       Remittance Advice (820)

c.       Delivery Trailer manifest (212)

6.       Include impact on sustainability

7.       Develop educational programs

 

Key drivers

 

 

These documents help to fill a void in the industry today.  To our knowledge, no one has created documentation regarding business best practices for implementing electronic messages.  Numerous solutions exist from a technical standards perspective, however, the business implementation guidelines are a new solution in filling the business need.

           

We have created and continue to create, implementation guidelines for key transportation electronic messages that will assist organizations with best practices for implementation.  These documents provide the business context for the message, benefits, implementation best practices and recommended standards.
